Types of Construction Projects

September 3rd, 2011

constructionConstruction is defined as “a process that consists of the building or assembling of infrastructure.” (See 1. below) On the other hand, a Construction Project “includes all material and work necessary for the construction of a finished structure for occupancy by End Customer. This includes site preparation, foundations, mechanical, electrical work, and any other work necessary to complete the project.” (See 2. below)

There are different types of construction projects:

  1. Residential
Residential construction projects include houses, townhouses, apartments, condominiums, cottages, single unit dwellings and subdivisions. The housing designs are generally done by architects and engineers and the construction is executed by builders who hire subcontractors for structural, electrical, mechanical and other specialty work. This type of project must conform to local building authority regulations and codes of practice. 2. Building
Building construction is perhaps the most popular type of construction project. It is the process of adding structure to real property. Steel Building Construction Planning

July 18th, 2011

constructionA steel building construction project may seem like a difficult and complex task to those that haven’t had any experience in construction, but following a few simple guidelines in planning in preparation, the experience can turn from a task to an enjoyable adventure. The key to a successful steel building project is in effective planning.

Successful Planning is Simple

As with most successful projects, consideration needs to go into the project requirements. One of the most effective tools you have for planning your project is the creation of following a simple ‘to do’ list. Most good plans are simple and with construction projects this holds true. A good plan can be put together by simply jotting down the ideas for your project with pencil and paper.

Basic Considerations

Having a basic understanding of the requirements for your steel building project is vital and in a construction project just covering the basics can take a lot of work. Though not necessarily complicated, the project work flow will run smoothly if all the details are covered. Some of the questions you may need to answer could be whether you plan to pour the foundation yourself or have a contractor do it for you. Depending on the scope of your project, you may want to include amenities in your steel building that would provide for additional costs such as electricity, plumbing, lighting or air conditioning. Furthermore, before starting the construction of your new steel building, you will most likely need to obtain the proper work permits. » Read more: Steel Building Construction Planning

The question is; How to improve on the time scheduled for construction of your building without sacrificing quality of construction? In other words you want to complete your building faster than originally scheduled.

I am sure you have heard that old saw, “money talks and bulls—-t walks.” Well that is as good a place as any to start looking at what incentives you could offer which will motivate your construction people to complete your project faster without sacrificing quality.

1. You can easily calculate how much money will be made if your project is completed faster than scheduled and offer to split the extra earned money with the contractors, fifty/fifty. » Read more: Speed Up Your Building Construction
